Zentangle for Beginners: Printemps Pattern

Hey guys! In this video we’ll learn about the Printemps, or spiral, pattern! I’ll show you how to draw it, along with my own personal variations, and ideas for how to use it within your artwork.

Leave me a comment below if you enjoyed, and thanks for watching!

  1. Hi Ashley! I found your Zentangle videos yesterday and I am so glad you are doing this series! I love the way you are teaching one step at a time. I have been tangling for about a year but I have not been very focused on learning new tangles in a very orderly manner. I think I will ask for the book that you recommend for Christmas! I have several large ZIA’s and I tend to fill up whole pages with as much as I can … and then I hate the page because it looks too messy and busy. I too am not a trained artist … got a Bachelors of Science in Nursing … and so I struggle with perception and shading. Your teaching made the concept of perception finally hit me … “what would I like to be on top, and what should be in the shadows?” I feel kinda dumb for never asking those questions before! I did a piece last night that I am very happy with … wish I could show you! I was too impatient to wait for next week’s video so I added a few tangles that I had in my notebook with the flux and printemps. Not sure the shading is quite right but that will come with practice. Thanks again for the videos! I love your style of teaching! Do you have a FB group where your followers can post work so they can be critiqued and commented on?

    • Hi Candra! Thanks for your wonderful comment! You can post your art on my Facebook Page if you’d like to share it (which I’d love to see!). You can find the link in the sidebar to the right. I’m glad you’re enjoying this series!

  2. Hi Ashley, I just found your videos on Zentangling. I’ve enjoyed watching the intro, flux, amaze and printemps. I’ve learned a lot and look forward to more of your Zentangle for beginners, at least I hope you will have more videos coming. I’ve been practicing what you have shown, I don’t have the right pens yet to try a full image, I will be getting them in the next day or so, and can’t wait to use them. Thanks for making the videos.

    • Hi Jacquelyn, thanks for your comment, I’m lad you’ve enjoyed my tutorials! I will definitely be making more, and have fun with your own doodling!
