Pinspiration Monday: Clever and Stylish DIY Wall Art Ideas

Good morning friends!

Well it’s a dark, rainy Monday outside here where I live…but that doesn’t mean it has to be dark and dreary inside our homes!  I was browsing on Pinterest (no surprise there, lol) and I came across this one pin that lead to an article by decoist that showcases a few easy yet colourful and stylish DIY wall art projects.

What caught my attention at first glance of the article was the paint chip idea.  You take paint chips from stores, cut out the individual squares, and arrange them against a piece of wood or canvas to create your own wall art.  You can choose the classic subway wall art style like this:

But what I thought was really clever was using the individual paint chips as pixels, and creating an image.  You could simply take a picture and use photoshop to pixelate the image, print it out and use it as a blueprint for placing your individual paint chips.

Love this cute pixel bird!

The article also contains ideas including hanging various pots and pans on your walls, creating your own wall-size calendar, the now-popular chalkboard paint idea, and this really neat deer made with string:

String art is becoming really popular in the DIY wall art trends, but I’ve always seen hearts made with string.  This deer is the first one I’ve seen. and it’s a really cute idea, especially as the decor for a crafting or scrapbooking space!  You put pegs into wood to form the outline of the image you want to make, then wrap the string around the pegs, criss-crossing to fill in all of the middle.  What’s nice about it is that it’s really easy to make it the colour you need for your decor, all you have to do is buy the right colour of yarn!

I love the idea of making your own wall art.  Even if you’re not into painting or crafting, these projects are simple enough that anyone can accomplish them with a little bit of practice and planning.

Let me know what ideas you have for your own home decor!

Till next time, keep creating!

p.s. I wonder if the home improvement store are pissed that everyone’s using their free paint chips for crafts now? I eventually want to make a big wall mural for my studio out of paint chips…but I plan on hitting up a bunch of different stores and taking just a few from each one.  Like picking a bunch of yellows from one store, reds from another, etc.  That way it at least looks like I’m debating over paint colours and not just grabbing a rainbow of colours for crafting!  I feel like a sneaky criminal  :/

I was at Home Depot yesterday with my husband picking out paint chips because we’re painting our bedroom.  We grabbed like 4 or 5 sheets of chips, and I felt a little guilty, lol. (And I was actually using them to pick out paint!)
