Pigment+Palette Subscription Box Is Closed

Hi friends, Happy Monday! I was going to write about something else today, but Saturday night I received an email form Pigment+Palette that I thought I should share with everyone. While I’m no longer subscribed to their monthly boxes, I am still subscribed to their emailing list so I can keep up to date with their boxes and to help me decide if I want to resubscribe to them.  But this weekend I saw this:

“We are sorry to announce that PIGMENT+PALETTE is closing after 2 years of business. This is our last month of business, and we won’t be shipping any boxes after November 30th.

If you made a payment in November, your box will ship out as scheduled through the end of the month.

If you ordered in November, but weren’t due to be billed until December, your order won’t be processed and you won’t be charged.

If you have a prepaid year subscription that still has a few months remaining, you’ll be receiving a refund for the time remaining on your subscription. You’ll receive a separate email with those details.

Please direct any future  emails about your specific account to support@pigmentandpalette.com as the customer service portal will no longer be running.

Thanks to all who joined us during the last two years!”

So unfortunately it looks like this monthly art subscription box has bit the dust. I went to their website too, and they just have a message saying that they are now closed for business. I wonder what happened? I did some research on Twitter and it looks like a lot of customers received their most recent box very late, and many seemed to not be very happy with the quality of the box. Did they try to cut too many corners and ended up losing customers?

Goodbye, Happy Black Box

Or is this whole monthly box subscription business model simply not sustainable? What do you think? Leave me a comment below with your thoughts, I’d love to hear it!

Also leave a comment below with your recommendation of art/crafting subscription boxes.  I know Artsnacks and Sketchbox are still going strong, so if anyone’s looking to give an art supply box subscription for Christmas, I’d have to recommend one of those.

So that’s it for today, guys! Just a quick post to let you guys know what I know. I was really surprised to see that email over the weekend, and I’m a bit saddened by it.  I enjoyed Pigment+Palette while I was subscribed to them.

So thanks for stopping by, happy Cyber Monday shopping, and till next time, keep creating!

  1. I got my October box on the 16th of November but I thought it might be because I am in the UK. I paid £18.95 for the box and the goodies I received inside were worth around £14. I was happy with some of the items. But overall I wasn’t really happy with the value of the box. Which I voiced in my unboxing video! I hope I didn’t single handedly shut down the company (lol) I just think that they realized how hard it was to try and keep up with the boxes as well as making the box worth the customers money, I resubscribed for November but I didn’t think the reason was good value or “Happy Christmas factor” as you call it! It was simply because it was the only box that I didn’t have to pay extra for shipping given that I am in the uk. However I have now found a box for cheaper that is based here so I don’t mind that they are closing at all!

    • Yeah I agree, I think it’s probably difficult to make a profit while at the same time providing the value that the customers want. They’d have to have some kind of really good deals with the various art product companies themselves, and I’m not sure if they are always able to get good enough deals to either 1. make profit or 2. be able to provide enough items for it to be worth paying the price for. Thanks for sharing your opinion, and I’ve heard of Scrawlr Box, but haven’t tried them out yet. Have you recieved a box from them yet? I hope you make a video of it so I can watch haha 😀

      • I haven’t recieved a box yet I only put an order in yesterday so I think I will get Decembers box, apparently they ship on the 17th then 1-2 working days UK and 5-7 working days International for delivery. I will probably make a video yep 😀

  2. I was very dissapointed to get that email and yes, the last box came mid month for me. They did change their box about 3 months ago or so. They said customers were requesting something more eco friendly. ( or something to that effect )
The first thing that came to my mind was that they just weren’t making enough profit to keep going
I was hoping you could recommend an art box that was similar with same pricing

    • Hmm, yeah that box switch may have been the signal that end was coming. It’s probably that they just couldn’t make enough money, like you said. All I can recommend is ArtSnacks or Sketchbox, as they’re the only companies that I have personally experienced (and that are still in business). Good luck finding a new box, and let me know if you find something new! 🙂
