Hello friends! It’s Monday again. How was your weekend? I hope you all had an excellent Mother’s Day. The weather around here was finally beautiful and warm!! So warm I almost thought it was summer (except for the fact that the beach water is still frigid). So now that it’s finally springtime and summer is just around the corner, I’ve started thinking about my garden. So here’s three beautiful DIY garden decoration ideas I’ve found on Pinterest to get our imaginations flowing!
Easy Fence Decoration
This looks so cute, and is very easy to do. All you need is some mismatched old frames from the thrift store, spray paint them whatever colour you want, and then use Terra cotta dishes (the kind that sit underneath the pot to collect excess water) and spraypaint them! The letters can be found from any craft store, again painted however you see fit. I would then give everything a spray of some kind of finishing spray. Krylon makes all kinds of sprays you can find at Michael’s or Hobby Lobby. I would find a type of acrylic one just to help seal the paint and protect the wood elements from the rain. And voila! A custom fence decoration!
Birdcage Plant Hanger
This image is from Pinterest, but I’ve actually seen this idea used in person from my husband’s aunt’s neighbours. Using a birdcage to display plants looks so elegant and fancy as opposed to the usual plant hanger options. This pictured one has a display of succulents, but the one I’ve seen in person just has assorted small pots of flowers (like geraniums, sunshine peonies, etc) clustered together. No special treatment of the cage is necessary, you’re literally just putting the pots together inside the cage, and hanging the cage up. Birdcages like this can be found at craft stores, or look at thrift stores for old ones. You can even check Kijiji in the pet section for anyone selling an old birdcage, and spraypaint it if necessary to get the look you want.
Recycled Metal Owl
Annnnd I’ve totally saved the best for last. This adorable little guy is made from reusing various kitchen gadgets, metal jar lids, bottlecaps, buttons, and wire. How adorable is this guy!? I’m totally going to make some. I will start hoarding bottlecaps and jar lids immediately. And really, how perfect is this idea of reusing junk items? Gardens are about appreciating nature and caring for our backyard environments, so taking what would normally be trash and turning it into something adorable to put in your garden is perfect. Plus they’re owls, and we all know how I feel about owls. I’ll probably make a craft tutorial video about this after I make a few (and maybe even offer some for sale in my store for those who don’t want to make their own). But I’m getting ahead of myself, this is just so darned cute it’s driving me crazy!
Ok, enough for now. I hope these little ideas have inspired you to think creatively this year for your own garden, and be sure to let me know what your planned DIY projects are! Thanks for reading!
